The Floodmatik barrier is almost ready to go on sale, and is attracting interest from a wide variety of people, it certainly seems to have captured the attention of everyone who has seen it or heard about it.
However, if you haven’t heard about it yet and want to know more about what it is, what it will do and how it works, here is a brief summary.
Put simply, Floodmatik is a fully automatic domestic flood barrier that requires no external power or human intervention. It operates like a drawbridge, normally lying in a horizontal position, flush with the ground, from where it raises to the vertical on the onset of flooding and seals the opening against the ingress of flood water. It does this before the flood level reaches the door threshold and it drops back to the horizontal when the flood recedes. This operation is entirely powered by the presence of flood water and the buoyancy of the barrier. You can see an animation of the operation by clicking here.
There are no other flood barriers on the market that can achieve this without external electrical power or the addition of expensive side walls and seals. The innovative concept has been acknowledged by the granting of a patent (GB 2486245). Floodmatik will encompass a range of fully automatic flood barriers of different sizes, ranging from domestic for foot traffic through household doorways, commercial vehicles through main factory entrances, to river level control in urban flood risk areas are all included. We have designed other barriers for these commercial and urban markets.
So, when will Floodmatik be available to purchase? We have built and successfully tested a fully working prototype and are now busy turning it into a finished product produced in volume to meet the predicted high demand in the UK. Our target is to have a mobile demonstration unit ready for a UK-wide “roadshow” in the Spring of 2023, with installations beginning in the summer of 2023.
